For families & friends

You can get support, too.

You do not need to have all the answers before asking for help.

Talk with someone

The 988 Lifeline supports people who are worried about someone else, as well as people seeking help for themselves.

Find support for yourself

Look for family support, counseling, or an Al-Anon meeting. You do not have to wait for someone else to seek help.

Starting a conversation

1

Choose a calm moment.

Say what you have noticed without labels or accusations. “I’m worried about you” is a place to start.

2

Listen, then offer something specific.

You might offer to help find a counselor, make a call together, or go to an open meeting.

3

Make room for your own needs.

Support groups and counselors can help you work through boundaries and decide what you can offer.
